On Friday 27th January in Amsterdam, Shift Cycling Culture hosted the first Environmental Impact Cycling Barcamp (EICB) in Amsterdam.

Barcamp brought together environmental enthusiasts and experts from the cycling industry to interact, be inspired and tackle some key issues facing the industry in a full one day program.

We covered a vast variety of topics from transitioning to circular business models and carbon accounting to supply chain engagement and communication of environmental claims. Throughout the day we identified some key themes that were driving many of the lively and insightful discussions.

What is a BarCamp?

Ever wonder why conferences can be so uninspiring and static? BarCamps are different.

A BarCamp is an ad-hoc gathering born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. It is an intense event with discussions, demos, and interaction from attendees, but without pre-determined agendas, speakers, or outcomes planned by the organiser. This creates a space for exciting dynamic conversation and the sharing of new ideas among participants.

A core group of facilitators, in this case Shift Cycling Culture, are responsible for getting everyone in the same place and providing the venue, but the participants and their projects are the main event. Every participant will get 20 minutes to present their project, challenge or idea. Participants are asked to contribute actively to all of the sessions and presentations.

At the moment, follow-up actions are discussed together with all participants.
