Shift BARCAMP 2024

After the success in 2023, Shift is hosting the second interactive in-person event, where participants bring the topics and create the agenda on the day together.


The Shift BARCAMP brings together environmental enthusiasts and experts from the cycling industry. It gives like-minded individuals the chance to connect, find inspiration, tackle key sustainability challenges, and to go for a ride together.

  • Location: Canyon Headquarters, Karl-Tesche-Straße 12, 56073 Koblenz, Germany

  • Entrance fee: Your 20-minute contribution and €150 to cover your food and the organization of the event. Dinner is not included.

  • Registration deadline: Please register before 9 Feb 2024

What to expect?
 

You can expect a friendly atmosphere where everyone's voice is valued, regardless of their level of expertise or background. 
The format of a Barcamp is participant-driven, so the agenda isn't fixed beforehand. Instead, all participants prepare a topic they will share in a short and interactive 20-min session. This could be a project you are working on, a challenge you face, or an idea that you would like to test with other thinkers.


The informal but facilitated set-up of the event makes it the perfect platform for sharing and learning in a collaborative and spontaneous way.

 

It's a great opportunity to engage in open conversations, connect with like-minded individuals, and learn from the diverse expertise within the Shift community.

Who can attend?
 

The Shift BARCAMP is an inclusive event, welcoming individuals and representatives from businesses across the cycling world of all sizes – big and small. It is the perfect space to bring together people from different business units to exchange ideas, challenges and to explore solutions.


Besides the sustainability professionals of cycling companies, we welcome product designers, engineers and managers, innovation teams, as well as communication and HR specialists. 

 

We also actively encourage grassroots organisations, freelancers, and anyone passionate about contributing to the intersection of cycling and environmental sustainability to consider attending. 

 

BARCAMP provides a diverse and collaborative space where insights and ideas can be shared across a broad spectrum of perspectives.

Seats are limited due to venue capacity and to ensure a high level of interactivity between participants.

  • Doesn’t cycling have a low environmental impact already?
    It does, to an extent. The use of bicycles significantly improves several problems faced by congested and highly populated cities, including air quality and overall health of the population. However, the production of bicycles has its own environmental impact, and although there is potential to offset this, the use of bikes in a wider context currently plays too small a role in balancing its production footprint and reducing cars on the roads.
  • What are the Climate Commitment signatories committing to? 
    REPORT: To disclose their company’s carbon impacts by measuring the Scope 1 & 2 Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions, in accordance with the GHG Protocol, by 2023 (latest) and to continue to do so on an annual basis. REDUCE: To disclose plans to reduce their Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions by at least 55% by 2030 (against a baseline of no earlier than 2015)
  • What is the GHG Protocol?
    The Greenhouse Gas Protocol is the international standard for calculating the carbon emissions of an organisation. Following a standardised methodology means our results will be consistent and comparable across our industry and from one year to the next. For more information, visit here.
  • What does ‘Scope 1 & 2’ mean?
    The GHG Protocol makes a distinction between ‘direct’ and ‘indirect’ emissions. The GHG Protocol defines direct and indirect emissions as follows: Direct GHG emissions are emissions from sources that are owned or controlled by the reporting entity. Indirect GHG emissions are emissions that
